Question

I have ordered some doors for a pole barn. They have been backorder. How do I figure the rough openings for these doors? I have 1-3/0 door, 1-6/0 door, 1-12'x8' Garage door and 1-9'x8' Garage door.

Thanks in advance!

The garage door rough openings are actually the same as the door size. The door fits inside the wall, not inside the opening. So, 9' and 12' A 10' door is about 10' 2" or so. The height is the same way.

Exterior doors have a thicker casing than do interior doors. I usually add 3 1/2" for ext doors and 2 1/4" for int. Make sure that this width is between the trimmers, not the king studs! I assume that these are both 6'8". 81 1/2" is pretty standard. If your header is a double 2x10 with a 2x4 on the bottom that's it.

Or you can get the RO from your lumber yard or home center. They have the specs in the catalogs. Better safe than sorry.
