I have a sliding window, from left to right where I need to install a window air unit AND I don't want to loose the fresh air access above the air unit. Got any ideas? I figure mount a dummy track on top of the air unit (a place for the screen to fit into) and have a custom screen made...then how do I secure the screened place in case of a wind or rain storm...I need a removeable panel maybe plexiglass? Has anyone else done this and what did you learn? Thanks, Denise

My suggestion is to close off the opening above the A/C unit with a piece of plexiglass as per the mfgr's. instructions and use a ceiling fan to achieve air movement in the room.
