Question

I tried to get Marvin Tilt Windows and found that my R.O.W. windows are an inch too short from standard. Do you know if R.O.W. makes these? Any other makers of these replacement window inserts? I would like to avoid the cost of replacing the whole window frames. Incidentally, the 1 inch from Marvin's standard costs me $60-$80 per window or about 25%.

Not sure I'm totally clear on this. If the Marvin's you are looking at are an inch taller than your current windows, ask about having retrofit units made that will allow you to retain the present frames. Will cost more, but what you will save in not having leaks will far outweigh that extra cost. If Marvin can't do it, try Amerimax, Simington, Insulate, Certainteed,...

I was hoping that R.O.W. still existed and measured windows the same way today they did when my house was built. I was told by a builder that standard is not standard - which means there are window makers that may have a 'standard' that fits my frame now, without my needing to spend another 25% on the window.

Spending "25%" more to get windows that are custom made to fit your existing openings will be far less expensive than reframing you openings to fit a given size window, and will greatly reduce the chance of a leak.
