OK, I'm going totally insane here. My windows have wooden frames, and I can't open them all the way--they tend to get stuck. They're the typical push-up type of window, if that helps. I don't know if they're stuck because of paint or because the wood tends to swell during rainy months. Can someone please help me figure out how to unstick them before I either break them by accident or some life threatening emergency happens in my house??

You can try disassembling the windows, stripping, sanding priming and repainting everything, and hope that will fix the problem. (figure about 3 or 4 days per window to do it.) Just be careful not to break any of the wood parts -- they haven't been available for years. Or, you can simply replace them with new retrofit windows with new, energy efficient vinyl units (probably a day to do them all), and the money you save on your utility bills will pay for the new windows in 4 or 5 years, maybe less. It's your choice.
