Question windows

I need to replace five drafty wood single pane windows with some vinyl thermal pane ones. Can I safely retain the aluminum storm windows for those five in order to preserve some exterior uniformity with the rest of my windows? I usually keep the storms intact even during the summer months, but I suppose I could raise one window pane on them if a buildup of heat between the vinyls and the storms is considered risky.

The answer is yes, if you get replacement windows.

Yes you can....you'll have to install the replacements from the inside by removing the inside stop moulding so you can retain the outside stop that the storms are mounted on now.....

And DEFINITELY watch out for heat buildup.....I put some windows in for a guy that got a bunch of windows from HomeDepot delivered on a pallet....they were shrink wrapped in addition to the plastic wrap on the individual windows....The knucklehead let them sit out in the yard in the sun for a couple weeks before he let me know they were delivered....Several were warped beyond use.
