Water damage at window
During the recent rain storms in the Bay Area, water has seeped through the stucko of our house, through the corner of our replacement kitchen window, and soaked the inside of the wall and window sill. I've cut away the soaked drywall to let the interior of the wall dry out.
But do I have to pull the window out also to let the wood between the sill and the 2x4 underneath it dry out also?

Well.....>I< wouldn't pull it out....I can't tell you what to do, just what I'd do...
Damage to wood occurs when it stays above 20% moisture content for long enough for bacteria to eat the wood......this takes a while....like weeks and months.....and is probably confused with "mold" which it isn't, probably because some surface mold generally goes along with the wood rot.
IF you get the water problem solved, the wood will dry out and be fine. IF you don't get the water problem solved, mount the window on hinges so you can swing it out on a regular basis
