Question

I am replacing an old wood door with a new wood door and the new door need to be about 1/8" narrower. My dad recommended that I plane the side so it fits tighter on the inside than on the outside. This may seem silly to you pros here, but how do I stabilize the door to plane the edge? What do I clamp it to? It is not hung yet.

Try standing it with its edge on the ground and clamping it to 2 sawhorses. Put something on the ground to protect the edge.

Clamping it to 2 sawhorses, as R.L. suggested usuall works. However, I generally clamp my door to my workbench to plane them. Sawhorses move -- a 1500 lb. workbench doesn't!!
