Question

My sliding glass patio door sticks and bucks along the bottom track and is getting worse. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Thank you. K.W.

It probably "sticks and bucks" because the rollers are due for replacement. Lift out the sliding pane, stand it one one edge (DO NOT lay it flat) and remove one of the rollers. Take it to a glass shop or a home center and find an exact replacement. Buy 2. To remove the other roller, stand the pane on the other edge. While the door is out of the track, check the condition of the guide rib in the bottom of the track (This is waht the rollers ride on.) If it shows signs of wear, add a snap cap to it. You can get that at any glass shop, in 8 foot lengths. Cut it to the proper length and snap it into place. Once you replace the slider, adjust the rollers.

Sticky Slider

I had a customer's door that was sticking and difficult to roll. The problem was with the weep holes on the outside of the door. A concrete guy poured the slab outside a little high covering the weep holes. This didn't allow water to drain from the track area. This in turn actuall caused one of the rollers to rust and seize up. I took the roller out soaked it in Coke over night and got it rolling again. I also tried cleaning the weep holes out to allow moisture to drain away from the track.
