Question

We've moved into a house in which the basement is separated by a finished wall with an opening in the middle which is 46 inches wide and one at the end which is 36 inches wide. I want to hang doors so do I just srart with the casing? How can I tell if the opening is framed properly underneath the drywall? Thanks for any advice. Also, if I were to get them hung by a professional, what could I expect to pay?

Several points to consider here. First, since the openings already exist, and if they were built when the house was, they are properly framed and will accept doors. However, the first problem you will run into with each opening is the width. Each opening needs to be framed down to a standard door width (2" wider than the size of door you want to install). You never mentioned the height -- what is it? It needs to be at least 81" from the finished floor to the sheetrock on the header for a standard door to fit.

If you have never installed a door, hire it done. Door installation is a do-it-yourself project, not a TEACH-yourself project.
