Two Door Questions

Question #1 My son's bathroom door opens into the bathroom. Can the whole door frame be removed and turned around so the door will open out into the bedroom? He is wheelchair dependant and we need the extra space.

Question #2 In our upstairs bedroom we would like to put a door leading out into unused attic space. How do I go about cutting a hole in the wall for a door?

As far as cutting a door into the attic, I would suggest that you wait until July or August, then go into the attic. THEN decide if you REALLY want a doorway there. What you are going to find is that the temp. in the attic is probably about 140 degrees -- about double what the temp in the house is. IF you decide to go ahead with the idea of putting in the door, make sure it is an exterior door, and very well insulated. Even at that, it will be warm to the touch.

Thanks Chris & Lefty. We want to be able to store stuff up there and the only other way in is a fold down ladder in the garage.

you can turn the door in the other direction, but make sure it does not obstruct any other egresses (exits). I suggest perhaps an automatic closing door (pnematic hinge) with no knob. Good luck.

My suggestion is that you stick with using the fold down ladder in the garage and DO NOT cut a door between the attic and the bedroom. That door could easily raise your cooling costs 10 - 15% in the summer.
