Need bedroom door where none before
We've moved to the finished basement of our townhouse. (The kids took over upstairs). The doorway to this room is framed on both sides and measures 35 1/2 at top, 35 5/16 at bottom, 6 1/2 deep. Height is 80 3/4 and 80 7/8 depending on where you measure. SIGH.
We thought about getting a 36 inch door and cutting it down, but we want a nice door and don't have the tools to make such a precise cut. So we've bought a solid pine 6 panel unfinished 32 inch door and some 2x6 in the hopes that some nails, caulk and molding will result in a proper fit. But its not too late to start over if you have a better suggestion?
Thanks, guys. You all are great!

Maybe I'm missing something here but what I'd likely do if faced with these parameters would be to purchase a pre-hung 32" door and finish out the opening plumb and square to fit it.
Or, perhaps, your doorway is already finished out, although the tolerances you're calling out suggest a rough-framed situation. Perhaps a clarification is in order.

Its done - we nailed the premium spuce (few knots) 2x6's to the sdes and the door fit perfectly. A little molding on the short sides, put the stops on, and the door looks and operates great. Now if only we could agree on a paint color . . . .
Thanks for your help anyway.
