Any ideas for fixing window/door trim?
My husband and I recently paid a contractor to remodel our home. I asked for 1x4 window and door trim with butted joints. They used #2 pine on the fronts and *plywood*, of all things, on the inside of the window frames! Needless to say, it looks terrible; in addition, most boards show saw marks.
After my dh and I saw what had been done, we told the contractor we will finish the rest from here, not trusting them to continue. But we don't know the best route to take. Should we: 1) tear everything down and buy new (and better quality) wood; 2) tear everything down and run it through a planer to make the wood look better; or 3) look for a way to improve the appearance without taking it down (it has all been nailed and caulked)? If anyone thinks #3 is an option, please advise how to do it. We've tried sanding, which achieves a better look, but it is lot's of work.
