exterior door finish

i just purchased a new pre hung front door from lowes, mahogany w/ glass insert. i would like to apply a good finish to the door before i install it. does anyone have any recomendations as to what i should use/brand?

I would consider a good quality exterior varnish. If this will be baked by the sun, you will likely have to renew the finish every few years.

stained glass?

I posted this question in a couple of forums cause i didnt know where it belongs. my house has a bunch of those 1/2 moon, cresent shaped windows above my dining room, bathroom windows. the only options i have found for privacy and shade is the wooden blinds or window tint. i have decided i want to put stained glass up. i am just using it for the reasons mentioned above, not as a decorating statement ;) in other words...CHEAP!!! i was thinking some faux (plastic) semi-circle stained glass would do the trick but i dont have a clue where to look for this type of thing. anyone have any ideas???Read More

Correct me if i am wrong. There are two types of windows frames: 1)Wood frame(which are for wood frame houses,with the flange mid-way of the jamb,to secure it from the front). 2)Masonry type (which doesn't have the flange,it screws directly into the 2x4 frame from the side). My house is combination of both masonry block and a wooden entry way. Question: Can i use a masonry type window in place of the existing aluminum wood frame window?
