Replacing Window Sill
#1

Anyone know of a good step-by-step guide on replacing a window sill? I've got a few that are rotted (frames as well). I can figure out how to replace the frames, but the sills seem a bit tricky. Any secrets? Thanks, FB

I gather that you are dealing with wooden framed, single or double hung windows.
Replacing the sill is simply a matter of removing the old window, making a duplicate sill out of 2X (probably a 2X8) and attaching it to the frame, then reinstalling the window. Will probably require that you have a table saw, and pay very close attention to the angle that the sill is sloped at.

Hi Fishguard.
I agree with Lefty, but had to offer something.
You say some frames are rotted as well? How much is rotted? If it is very much, It almost sounds like it would be worth it to just replace the windows. The big-box home improvement stores offer replacement wood windows (if that is what you want).
Just my 2 cents worth.
