Painting and Exterior Door

I am trying to help out the widow of my best friend by doing some maintenance on her house. She has a exterior door that her late husband painted on several different occassions and the paint/ stain will not stand up to the sun and ends up fading. The door gets full sun for most of the day and it is a synthetic material so the stain does not penetrate. Can you recommend something for me to do when I paint/stain the door this time around. I appreciate any help I can get as I would like to do a good job on it.

hey, does the door u r working on have alot of dips, curves and hard to reach corners? if so what do u use to get at them. i tryed to use a dril bit that has sand papper on it but thats not really working out.

Paint would be the best exterior protection for full sun. Light colors fade less than dark colors. Top quality paints give the best results.

how difficult????

7 years ago when i bought my house i got vinyl replacement windows installed. i am now putting on a deck, and would like to put the soon to be removed 3 light casement window from the dining room into the place where there are 2 double hung windows in the den. the opening will have to be made a little bigger to accomidate this unit, but it will dramatically improve the light in this particularly dark room. what i need to know is how hard is this to do. assuming i dont need to move any elect or ducts is it as simple as cutting the opening bigger and framing around the opening for the 3 light unit?? is there anything else i should know about this. im an electrician, and have access to tools, so getting a sawzall etc and doing stuff like this is no problem, it will just be the first time attempting something like this. Need help with Low-E and Argon gas question

I am in the Midwest, in Illinois to be precise. I am looking around for vinyl replacement windows and I would like to have extra sound proofing if that is possible. 1. Does it make sense to get low-e on all windows or just the ones that the sun hits during the day, ie. East and West? 2. Is it worth the extra cost to also add on argon gas to the low-E? Does the argon gas help in sound proofing? Thanks.Read More
