Who to trust
I have gotten 6 estimates on single hung vinyl windows with lowE and argon and the prices are from one extreme to the other. I don't know who to trust. The first guy was a contractor who is his own boss. He isn't working for any door and window company as the others are. His estimate was for Alside and he said he could do Simonton but he didn't give me a price for them. After reading all the posts in this forum I'm leaning toward Simonton. I have 7 windows, five are 24"x72", two are 36"x72" fit together to make one big window and one is a fixed 12"x72" beside the front door. The estimates are $1700. from Window World, $3700. for the Alside, $3800. for Jordan which I've never heard of, and $5100. for Champion. I really fell for Window World with $1700. but I discovered the guy lives in Arkansas and has had this place open for one year. I live in central Oklahoma. He goes home on the weekends. It doesn't look too permanent. I just don't know if I'm being ripped off by the others. The Alside guy is charging more than $450. a window. Is that reasonable for a middle of the line window?

Simonton and Allside are very similar in price and quality.
The windows themselves would cost me about $1300-1400.
I normally get $50-60/window to install if you buy the window. I add a few bucks more if I supply it because I figure you're gonna expect me to come back on it if you have any manufacturer problems.....they will supply the parts but not the labor, so I just charge for it up front......If you buy the window and have problems, I'll charge you for service later.
So I'd do the job for $1800-2000.
Something you have to watch about WindowWorld, at least here, is they don't include wrapping the outside in their price in the newspaper.....then try to tack on $60 or so just for that....."oh, you also want "premium" caulk ? ....that's another $20." and by the time you actually get the window in the hole compared to me, they are much higher.
