Between Patio & Pergo

Hi, I have a long(about 8 foot) window facing the sun just about all day long. I was wondering what I could do to help keep the sun out. I was thinking of tinting them with a film, but I want the sun in the winter for warmth. They are double mpane gas filled windows. My present idea is to get some of that bubble type of insulation that has alumionum on both sides and stapling it above the window the length of it. This would act as an awning. First I would spray paint the aluminum to make it less reflective(or maybe I should leave the top side relective to reflect the sun? Real awniungs are too expensive. I don't care about the look, and it would be taken down in the winter. I live in the country and not ma whole lot of people can see too much of my house. Any suggestions please. Thanks George

Recently bought an entry door from Lowes with two sidelights. The salesman mentioned that they are available with one of the sidelights being operable. In other words it is hinged and can be opened for moving in large pieces of furniture, etc. Thought it was a good idea so I ordered it that way. No problems installing the door but then realized that I couldn't install a storm door as the frame on the operable sidelight side of the door does not go out as far as the other side. Anyone ever run across this and have a solution? My wife wants me to rip it out as she likes a screen door during the summer.
