Window Glazing or caulk?

I have a question that no one seems to be able to answer. I have a 6 unit apartment building. Over the years I have gotten really good and fast at using caulk. However I am really bad and slow at using DAP glazing putty for windows. My question is why can't I use a good quality outdoor caulk for glazing my windows? I have read several tubes of caulk and they claim they can withstand severe outdoor tempatures, they remain elastic, they provide a good seal and they are paintable. So what am I missing?

Window glazing is just window glazing. The DAP folks how have an applicator tip that makes application of window glazing easier and it comes in a tube.

Tradition. You just aren't allowed to violate it. The historical district police will be after you........

Really, I don't know other than that.......heck, give it a try. I'm sure my tongue in cheekieness above probably really IS close to the answer. GOOD caulk is a fairly recent invention ( say like the last 20-30 years ) because the old stuff was crap.

Better living through chemistry, huh ?

Like chfite said, you can get DAP 33 glazing in a caulking tube that has a great applicator on the tip. Just makes the job too neat and easy!
