replacemant windows?

I am considering replacing my old double hung windows and a picture window and adding a patio door where two double hung windows are currently. (8 double hung, 1 picture window with 2 casements alongside and 1 patio door) We have currently three bids by replacemant window/siding companies. The price range varies with Alside windows being the cheapest Anderson being next expensive and the most expensive so far is the Thermal-Gaurd. (prices $8700, $10,125, and $12,125 respectively) All these salesman wanted us to sign a contract that night and the left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Does anyone have any suggestions and or do these prices seem reasonable? We are currently awaiting a quote from another place with pella.

Never sign a "deal tonight"......show them the door instead. If it's a good deal tonight, it will be a good deal in a few days.

Up to 36x60 or so, a vinyl replacement window with LowE ought to run in the $300 range or less, installed. Patio doors run from $400 on the low end to $1500 on the higher end, just for the door. A pretty good door can be had for the $800 range. Labor I can't say, because there are SO many variables in taking out 2 windows and sticking in a door.....whether a new header needs builing/installing, type of siding or masonary and so on......But I would think in the WORST case, about $1200 or so.....

So, for just your windows, ( and assuming the pic/w casements doesn't need major surgery to do ), I'd say 11 times 300 = $3300........throw in 2K for a worst case patio door and you're in the mid 5K range.

Keep shopping.....and let us know back what you end up doing !
