sticky door

Help! We can't open the front wooden door of our new home, which apparently has expanded with all the heat and humidity down here (Charlotte, NC). We can get the top open a crack, but the bottom simply won't budge, even with a lot of elbow grease. No problem with the locks. Any ideas on how to open it?

You can remove the hinge pins, then lift the door out.

Ok, if I am able to get the door out then what? Will this correct the problem? As this has only happened since the weather turned hot and humid, I'm wondering if anything more permanent needs to be done.

Thanks in advance,

OK, the door is off. Make sure the screws that hold the hinges in the jamb and door are seated. Now take a plane or rasp and remove 1/16 " from the latch edge of the door, if that is where it is binding. That should get it back up and working. You might need to take a look at the spacing around the door once it is back in the jamb and remove a tad more material in places.

Hope this helps.
