Unhappy Windows / is it worth doing yourself

I have a 10 year old house and the sills on most of the windows are rotting out. The builder put in the cheapest windows he could get away with. Last year I replaced 2 sills , but I have alot more to do and the windows are in tough shape. I made up my mind to get someone in to replace them, after several estimates they range from $9,000 to $11,000. I need 13 double hung windows replaced. I wanted new construction windows made by Marvin (Integrity brand made of fiberglass/wood combo). These windows cost about $230.00 a each. This about $3,000 for windows. This seems resonsonable to me. The killer is the $6-8,000 in labor and misc. suppiles to do the job. Can any one tell me if these qoutes are in line or if I should try to tackle it my self. I have wood shingles on three sides and vinyl on the the front. I know I can do the job, but it's a big job for 1 or 2 poeple to do. Your advice would be most welcome.

It's not that big a job, IF you know you can do it.....Heck, lets say you do one a Saturday between now and Halloween.....Do you make $400-500/day on Saturdays already ?

And really, you probably find after the first one or two, you can knock out 2 or 3 a day....then the pay REALLY goes up !

If you're going back with a standard size to what you have, it really shouldn't be that hard.

Go for it.
