Window that keeps sliding down

I have just bought a home and I have 2 windows that open just fine, unfortunatly it slides down and will not stay ajar. Can anyone help me with this please? I think it is a spring that needs to be replaced, but not sure and window replace centers say they will charge me 100 dollars for just coming out.

Describe the window.......I'm having a bit of trouble seeing it from here.........hehe......I must need new glasses.

it is a normal vertical window which opens fine, but will not stay open, it jsut slides back down slowly.

Ah, Moksha......how can I say this......There are dozens of DIFFERENT "normal vertical windows"........it sounds like a spring, but unless you can describe the window a LOT more, as to material made of ( wood, vinyl, metal ), what the side tracks look like, etc, then just plan on shelling out the 100 bucks. No one can give you a haircut over the internet

magnetic plexiglass storm windows?

Several years ago, for my screened in porch , I used plastic sheeting and covered home made wood frames to "winterize" my porch. but they look ugly and are a pain to install and remove every year. Modern Plastics (modernplastics.com)sells magnetic window trim in which you insert plexiglass and magnetically attach these to metal strips installed around the windows. Do these work? They want $2.00 per linear foot x 180 ft plus 200 sq ft of plexiglass at $2.00 per sq ft = $760.00 Is there a better cheaper way? I was thinking of buying inexpensive metal storm window trim and glueing magnetic strips to my existing wood window frames, but I can't find cheap metal storm window frames and cheap plexiglass anywhere. reusing vinyl siding

I just recently started doing over my three season porch. While taking down some insulation i found that one of my window frames was infested with ants. I have to replace the window frame and put the window back in. In order to do this I have to remove quite a bit of my exterior vinyl siding. I was woundering if it will be ok to rehang the existing siding or do i have to go out and get new siding?:confused:Read More
