Window Recommendations vs price.
I will be installing a new window on the west side of my house this coming summer. I installed a "Certainteed" top of line in the west facing kitchen this past summer. It seems to be OK but rather expensive at $250.00 just for the window. It has every option they offered except grids.
I read below about a company called "Simington", I know nothing about this company.
I would appreciate opinions on these two brands with cost as a consideration but not a "Major" point.

I've installed both, and I'm a little more impressed with the Simonton than Certainteed.
As to price, you would have to compare apples to apples....they both have quite a few lines of windows with different features.
In Simonton, I like the Reflections 5100 series.

Yep
...
But my preference is based on ease of install for ME....ahahaha
As to performance, I'd say they are equal.
Probably the most important issue with windows is the strength of the dealership and service if you have a problem later. For that reason alone, I'd avoid the "bigbox" stores no matter HOW good the window was.
Rich:
When you coming over this way for a visit ?
You up in NC permanent now or just "vacating" again ?

Window installations were tested by wind gusts in excess of 60mph last weekend with 25F temps - good job!. I can't even imagine the crossbreeze in the living room with the old windows! Gusts were so strong that they woke us up in the middle of the night! Oh yeah, 3" of snow and 1/4" of ice - remember old fashioned tire chains - got em.

changeling,
Depending on the size of the window, $250 doesn't sound so bad if you loaded it with everything except grids. That would include low-E glass, which, at least at certain times of the year, many mfgrs. will include at no addtional cost, and argon -- which is going to add about 10% to 15% to the cost of the window.
Kitchen window was what -- about 4-0 4-0??

Window size 31.5" X 36.5 ". Not a big window! It does have the argon and "E" features. It still seems kind of high to me.
This window is over the kitchen sink so you can look outside.
