Home Depot (Simonton) windows - price/quality?

Hi everyone,

I just got a quote from an Home Depot in-home services to remove my old jalosy (sp?) windows and put in 3 new Low E / Argon windows from Simonton.

The measurements:
Kitchen: 42" (w) * 33" (h)
Bedroom: 29" (h) * 30" (h)
Bedroom: 29" (h) * 30" (h)

The prices (includes $70/win. to remove metal jalosy frames):
$1691 (top of the line)
$1540 (middle line)

Seems really high, but this is my first quote to replace these windows. They guarantee the top of the line windows "for life." Has anyone has experience with HD windows? TnAndy, I think I read that you like the Simonton 5100 line, but I'm not sure which line HD will use.

Thanks for any thoughts you may have!

Thanks for your reply. The price seemed so high that I did not even bother asking about the specifics of the guarantee.

I have a brick exterior on the kitchen window and wood exterior on the two bedroom windows. The prices seemed to be based mainly on the size and cost of removing the jalosy frames (which itself may be an arbirary mark-up by HD), and not so much the exterior.

I think my best bet is to keep shopping for contractors. Thanks for you advice TNAndy!
