pocket doors

I am installing a pocket door. The door has a prefab frame. Do I need to add a traditional header and jamb frome or will the prefab pocket door frame suffice by itself.

Thanks

You'll need some kind of header. If the wall is load bearing (perpendicular to the ceiling joists) a 4" x 10" should do the job.

If the wall isn't load bearing, sandwich some 1/2" drywall or plywood between two pieces of 2x stock. The drywall/plywood just fills the header out to 3-1/2" thick.
