Door Swings

Door Swings
I currently have a few doors upstairs in a two story house that will not stay open. When you open these doors and let go of them they swing closed by themselves. There are also doors that when I set them against the frame, they swing open. Any help would be appreciated.

The doors are out of plumb.
You can loosen the bottom hinges and shim behind them with things like flat cardboard (cereal box material), old utility knife blades, popsickle sticks, etc.
You'll just have to experiment with what will plumb them enough for them to hang where you leave them.
Good Luck!

Shim behind the hinges on the frame.
Start with the bottom hinges. That usually will do it, but you can shim out behind the other hinges if that's where the doors are out of plumb.
Close the doors and see how they fit in the opening (providing the frame opening is plumb, square and level.
You might put a level across the top of the doors to see which way to shim to get them plumb.
Good Luck!
