vinyl and aluminum exterior cladding??
I've got a guy coming next week for an estimate on 10 double hung replacement windows. I've heard the aluminum exterior is bad and is a conductor for the cold?? So then am I wrong for looking at windows with vinyl interior and vinyl and aluminum exterior cladding? The brand name is Republic if anyone knows anything about them too. Thanks
PS, it gets pretty cold and windy here in Chicago....

A clad window is not going to transfer heat or cold like an aluminum framed window will, due to it having to dissimilar materials making up the frame, and vinyl is a very poor conductor of heat and cold.
With low-E glass, the U-factor and the SHGC of the window should be about .32 to .35. ASK to see the NFRC sticker. Adding argon, or some other inert gas fill between the panes will lower both of those numbers (which means your utility bills will drop a bit more).
I would suggest shopping at least 2 or 3 other brands for comparison before you commit to anything.
