Folding doors on stairs?
#1

O Great Door People,
Please tell me if there are any safety code issues with installing folding doors (accordian, bi-fold...) at the top of stair wells.
I am considering a folding door to prevent door fights in an entryway, where my exterior door and my basement door have had conflicts. Problem has been minimal, but, now since my basement game room is near completion I anticipate considerable more activity (five children in household).
My local township (southwestern PA) does not currently have a building inspector that I can ask, and the previous guy didn't seem too interested in inspecting anything, anyway - just said, paraphrased - "if you're not increasing the square footage of your home you can do anything you want".
Regards, Iceman

If you have large pets or children, nothing is "durable".
Oh, I guess you could use barn door track and 1/2 inch steel plate.
Most people live in their home for an average of seven years. Make an educated guess on what would last for seven years and install it. When you decide to put the house on the market, go through the house and decide what needs freshening.
