need narrow replacement window!

I need to replace an old odd-sized window in my bathroom. The window is 57" high but only 14" wide. I have not been able to find a company that will make such a narrow window. I would be OK with either a single or double-hung window. Any suggestions?

Are the dimensions noted the size of the rough opening? If not, measuring or calculating the rough opening is the first order of business.

Is the wall this window is in a bearing or non-bearing wall? What are the interior and exterior surface finishes in the area of the window.

I've seen some 18 x 60 casements but nothing in that size range in a double hung. Does the window have to open? What glazing is preferred?

Why won't they make "such a narrow window"?

My only suspicion is someone got sued over a non-egress window in a bedroom, so they refuse to make windows that won't qualify as egress, just in case it ends up in bedroom.

So.....if you let them install the window in the bath, they might mellow out and make the window.

Yep, it's going to be expensive.

Or, you can enlarge the opening.

Either of the 2 companies that I buy vinyl windows from can make single hungs 14" wide (but not any narrower). Like Steve pointed out, this would not be a legal window in a bedroom, unless there is another window in that bedroom that is larger and satisfies the egress requirements of the code.

Check with some local glass shops -- see what their suppliers can do for you.

Minimum DH..........13 1/2" X 22. Limitations are determined by balance length and the positioning of the lock and tilt latches on the bottom sash.
