Locked Out & Missing Doorknob
#1

I have a problem.
As I was shutting my bedroom door from the outside, the knob came off as the door closed. When I tried to put the knob back onto the spindle, the spindle sank back into its hole. So now there is nothing for me to turn so I can open the door. I have absolutely no experience with home repair (I'm only 18), and I really really need some help! I have no idea how to go about extending the spindle again, if that's even an option. Will I just have to resort to unhinging the whole door? And if so, how will I get the latch thing out of the jamb? Ah I feel like an idiot!

first use a wide slotted screwdriver to open the door. Insert the screwdriver into slot which the spindle was in and turn and the door should open up...You should then find the spindle and bedroom side of the knob hanging in the door or on the floor. It should be fairly simple to figure out how to reattach it . Look for a set screw on each knob which will need tightening onto the spindle...write back if you need any further advice.
