Header for LARGE Door

I am trying to replace some windows with a 12' wide double sliding glass patio door. Where the problem comes in is that there is not enough room above the rough opening for a standard 2x12 header. I have had some say I could use a 6" steel I-Beam, but I have no idea what that would entail or how expensive that would be. I want to install a 6'8" door and I only have a total of 87.5", which leaves me a maximum of 7.5" above the rough opening for the header. One more thing. This is on a double wide solitaire. Please help if you can. Or should I just give up on this idea and install 2 6' sliding doors?

What is the roof line above the wall, is it the gable end or the eve end?

It is the Gable end. We will be extending the roofline about 20' out from the exisiting gable. As the plan stands now, the supports for the newly tied in roof will be hidden inside the walls. The header will have to be attached to / rest on top of these support columns. Hope you are good at this stuff.

I AM good at it, and you are in over your head!!

My suggestion is that you hire a pro to install the 12' door, or stay with two 6' doors and do that yourself, using the existing header.

The last thing you want is to be woke up in the middle of the nite to the sound of your roof hitting the living room floor. That will ruin your whole day!!
