Interior double French door for finished opening of 62.5" wide

Hello,

I want to put a double French door in the opening between two interior rooms in my house. The opening is currently finished complete with all the casings and moulding. The finished opening size is 62.5 x 82. What are my options considering I don't want to rip out any of the finish work in order to make a prehung door work. Ideally all I want is two doors on hinges that I can just screw on to the existing casing. I guess my main question is where can I get 31" wide french doors with 15 windows each? Thanks.

You may take this with a grain of salt, but when I did the very same project 3 yrs ago my options were to special order my size(which costs a great deal more) or suck it up and make the rough opening to a standard size and get it in( which costs a great deal less.) Good luck!

Rodney,

How exactly did you make the opening a standard size? I'm thinking of just adding a 1.25" strip of wood on each side of my existing finished casing, making it 60" wide, and then just getting two French doors (not a prehung model) and fasten them to the 1.25" strips of wood. Is this similar to what you did?

Mark,
I had to widen my opening 4" so I had to redo the opening. I gues I don't understand what you mean when you say you want to hang two seperate french doors, french doors are two seperate doors that open into each other aren't they?

Indiana627,

I understand that you don't want to make a mess in your house, but my friend, if you are going to install a set of french door in an existing opening, the MESS is inevitable!!

The current casings and moldings are GOING to have to come off to install the new doors. Don't worry about what size of openings you have between them. The FINISHED opening that you have has nothing to do with nothing. What's the ROUGH opening???

Install a set of standard size french doors that will go into your rough opening, even if you have to reduce that opening a couple of inches. That will be HALF the cost of ordering some odd ball set of doors that are 2" wider and 3/4" taller than a standard set. What would you gain for double the price???
