I am considering removing the old wood casement window over my kitchen sink and am looking for any information on framing for a bump-out window as well as flashing it and what goes on top. I recall a while back reading an article in one of the hundreds of magazines regarding the framing/flashing, searched high and low for weeks and cant find it. I may be calling it by the wrong name searched the web with no result.The rough framing now is 2X4 and I beleive I reframe with a 2x10. Any info would Grrrrrrrreatly appreciated.

I am trying to install a Larson screen/storm door on my front door frame. There is a brick finish on the front of the house. I removed the two decorative door frame pieces surround the door frame and found they were made of a styrofoam type product, with the outside ege of it basically glued to the brick and the inside edge nailed to the door frame (it is about 6" wide). The door frame consists of a 2x4 attached to the brick and a much smaller board that is actually the exposed and painted door frame that is attached to the 2x4. My problem is that when I hang the storm door on the edge of the frame on the hinge side, there is no wood on the opposite side in which to put the required door handle / lock pieces. (The door is hanging forward of the door frame.) I believe I need to build up the door frame, but am unsure how to do so. I was going to hang the screen door onto the frame, then nail a 2x6 onto the door frame to give me something in which to install the handle/lock pieces and then nail/glue the styrofoam type frame pieces on top of this. Does this sound right, or does anyone have any other ideas on how to build up the frame to support the storm door? Thanks for any help.
