Door pin removal

Hi my husband and I own a rental home and the last tenants had put a lock on the closet door in which we do not have the key. The door opens outward and we were able to remove the top hindge pin, but the bottom one seems to be stuck. The hindges are old and painted over and are not like the normal ones in most houses these days and there is a like a ball on both ends of the pin. Hope someone can help before my wanna be handy man husband ends up doing damage to the frame or who knows what... I was hoping someone could lend some advice to this problem. Thanks... Jillian

Jillian B,

Welcome to DoItYourself.com, the Door forum, AND to the world of rental units!

Hopefully you are still holding the damage deposit from the previous tenants. You MAY be able to pull the pins and remove the door -- but if not, destroy the door to get it out, and charge the tenants for a new door. I'm pretty sure you never told these guys that it was OK to put a lock on the closet door, then have them run off with the key!!
