Question Replacing a door but keeping the molding on one side

Hi gang,

Say I want to replace a door in a bedroom with a pre hung unit, can I get by by just removing the molding from only one side of the door, or do I have to pry off everything on both sides (Which I'd like to avoid if all possible)

Thanks,

Eric

Pop the casing off BOTH sides so that you can insert shims from both sides! Shims are tapered, so you need to insert one from each direction, one on top of the other, to keep the jamb square to the wall.

thanks for the advice.... I can't really remove the casing at this point, so I'll just hang a fresh door on the existing jambs. I'll dress them up a bit first.
