Window replacement tips

I was thinking of installing Pella windows in our home but cannot find exact size replacements. I can find some that are smaller in width and longer in height. My question is, How hard is it to resize the rough opening for someone that is an amatuer handyman? Any install tips would be greatly appreciated too.

Call Pella -- they'll make the windows any size you want them to be.

Big box stores (HD, Lowes, etc.) are only going to carry standard sized windows on their shelves.

Defective Leaking windows and doors

There has been reference to the Leakywindows.com website on these forums. The Leakywindows site was built to give consumers information on defects and leaking problems associated with the Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork company. Until now the site was password protected and restricted. We have have received numerous requests for access to the site, many from members of this forum. Storm windows--are they any use?

I have a c. 1929 brick craftsman bungalow with original windows, never painted on the inside and real beauties. They all have chain pulls, open and shut fine and made of oak. I would hate to get rid of them and install the plastic looking new windows. My question is this -- is there any value in replacing the old storms? I have to do something, they are falling apart, but I am afraid that maybe storms are of little use in an old house like mine. Any input would be appreciated.
