Replacement vs. Prehung exterior door??

I am debating between getting a replacement door or prehung. I had a quote of about $500 to have a steel door installed. This would keep the existing frame and wrap it in thin steel. Also a new sill. But now I am hearing about a prehung door might be just as good an easier. I know they are pretty cheap at the home improvement stores. A guy at work thinks I should be able to install it myself. He has done several and I could use him for help if needed. So that will help. I will save a lot of money doing it myself. Are there any benefits getting the replacement door with steel wrapped frame?? Worse case with the prehung door is to hire someone. A friend just had this done. He bought the door and paid $450 for installing 3 doors. So not bad at all... Thanks for any input...

I would go with the prehung every time. If you have any skills, and a buddy to rely on for assistance, take the extra money and spend it on an fancier look front door. I think one of the first "major" jobs I ever did was hanging a door, back then I was strong enough to pick one up myself. Make sure you have a good square and a good level.
