I am debating between getting a replacement door or prehung. I had a quote of about $500 to have a steel door installed. This would keep the existing frame and wrap it in thin steel. Also a new sill. But now I am hearing about a prehung door might be just as good an easier. I know they are pretty cheap at the home improvement stores. A guy at work thinks I should be able to install it myself. He has done several and I could use him for help if needed. So that will help. I will save a lot of money doing it myself. Are there any benefits getting the replacement door with steel wrapped frame?? Worse case with the prehung door is to hire someone. A friend just had this done. He bought the door and paid $450 for installing 3 doors. So not bad at all... Thanks for any input...

A home improvement company is telling me that a national code or federal regulation prohibits them from installing non-tempered (or keep-safe) window glazing in windows that are less than 18 inches from the floor. Can someone verify this for me? Using keep-safe glass is adding around 3,000 bucks (2.75/united inch) to my window replacement project! Thanks. Frank
