Help me to reduce noise

Hi,All:

Is there anyway to reduce the noise coming from windows? I know there
are some ways to do it:
1. Put extra storm window. But it is not allowed here because HOA.
2. Put another special anti-noise window. I looked up in the web and the
thing I found is expensive. $600-$800 per window.

Thanks.

one thing to look at is if the window is insulated around the window frame ( between window frame and studs ) It's not a lot but it does help in both R value and noise. 6 to 800 a window is steep it would be cheaper to replace the whole window than add storm windows at this price

there is no easy way. I would check the smallest window first. Cut back a small section of Sheetrock and look, no insulation? start ripping.

I do have 1 question.
Is this just for 1 window in the bedroom so you can sleep better at night?
If it is, I would find another way, instead of ripping and tearing.

HI,

Did you see:
http://www.soundproofwindows.com/us.html
Have you heard of it? Sounds good.

I have two bedrooms near the street. One has one window and the other
has two windows.
what do you mean by "ripping and tearing"? Is there any detailed instructions avaliable?

I live in Herndon,VA. I notice that you live nearby. Do you have some
recommandation for good contractors.

I appreciate your idea.

Looked at your website yes I have seen these, all it is, is an interior storm window, nothing special. We did these back in the 70's before insulated windows became popular. I'm sure you could go to Lowe's or some place like that and build and install your own interior windows at 1/4 the cost

No ... I live in Washington state, not even close to you LOL

actonwang,

Look carefully at what you currently have for windows. You might not need to spend any extra on "sound reducing" windows to make a dramatic impact. The case in point is my Mom's windows that I installed last week. (That's why I wan't here.)

(Sorry glasman2, I invaded your territory! Arlington. But you wouldn't have gotten the job anyway, unless you were just buying the work -- I did it for the cost of the windows plus $200 for the diesel to get me up there and back!!)

What Mom's house had was the original 25 year old aluminum framed dual pane XO sliders. I replaced all 11 of them, and a 6' slider with ordinary EPI dual pane vinyl windows, and installed an 8' french door unit in place of their 8' slider. My Pappy has e-mailed twice since I got back home commenting on how much quieter the house is now that I left!!! Just getting rid of the aluminum framed windows made a VERY noticable diiference in the noise level. The rest of the noise that they are still hearing is probably 90% due to other sources -- the roof, the walls, etc., etc. IMHO, spending the extra $500 to $600 per window on "noise reducing glass" would have been pretty much a waste of money in their case.
