Skylight moisture

I've been in my house for about 8 months. Last night I noticed a discoloration of the ceiling around my skylight. I can't quite reach it to feel if its wet, but we've had a lot of rain lately. I'm sure the discoloration is new.

I had the home inspector double check the skylight for moisture when we bought the house.

I don't know jack about skylights, what are my next steps here?

If the skylight can be opened, check the weatherstripping. If it's OK, call a roofing contractor to check the flashing. Also did your seller provide a home warranty? If so, you're covered, call them first.

The skylight cannot be opened. They did provide a one year warranty, I forgot all about that. It's probaly not covered, you know how those companies use loopholes.

It should be covered if it's a roofing fault. They may balk if they try to claim it's a skylight fault (unless skylights were not excluded in your coverage -- read the policy). Improper flashing would be a roofing fault, just like improper flashing around a vent or chimney. Good luck.

hi
sound like flashing problem might be missing some step shingle
or badly install.
I did one once and then the customer did not like the shingles apperance for they where lifting a little.
I told him the will go back in place with the heat from the sun. He went and redone what i did and it leak. So check and see if the previous owner did not mest with it.

cheers
