need clever insulated cat door

Maybe the wrong forum? How bout it mechanical. Lookin for a draft-free, secure, cat door. Yea, I should just get rid of the cat! I had a 4" wide strip of clear plexiglass with a rubber flap at the bottom that was squeezed closed by the screen slider for the summer (and it worked fine) but now I don't wanna leave the glass slider open in winter. It was left open in summer just enough for the cat and woodjammed for security. Was gonna use the pink thick styrofoam insulation with a bottom flap but it will probably be drafty. Those store magnet units are really for summer. Seems like it needs to be tight tolerance.. not lookin good for the cat! We're gone all day and it is a safe (for cats) area so we like to let em out but not locked out. Would rather not use automation with collar sensors or detectors. Please don't comment on how silly this Q is. Thanks R7.

Not really. They exist. The problem has been solved. Your idea is along the line, but not quite there. Seek and you shall find an improved idea (ready made).

How will you know: double insulated unit... fits between glass and screen tracks... thermo panel pet door.

Question is: is your cat worth the cost.

It figures.... Thanks

No, My cat is not worth this investment (even before I look at it) but I will go there because the local Dog Pound asked me to set them up with a solution to their winter winds blowing through the "wide open" dog ports in the place. I have used rubber and disgarded plastic sheeting (1/2" thick by 3" x 5') strips cut down to make door frames for these "cinder block openings". I guess some of these stray dogs will eat up and spit out a 2 x 4 like nothing so the plastic is necessary.

Anyway, they are just cutting the wind where I was concerned about drafts. I feel like I have time to pull a styrofoam, rubber and foam rubber sealed unit together and still have both screen and glass slider useability (along with security). Figured there might be a mechanical type out there who drew up their solution before they made it themselves. Should probably draw out mine [when I'm through].... and then retire on it. Thanks again... BTW, I have sought and have found much "as promised in the Word" and you're right, this is no exception.
