Hello - I am remodeling my basement. I have set my new framed wall out approx 6-8" from the old wall. (due to contour changes & piping) There are openings in the wall for my existing two windows and french door. I have hung all the drywall except for around the openings. Q. What is the best way to finish out around the windows and doors - ie the 6-8" depth from my new wall to the existing windows & door - both the sides and top/bottom (jamb extensions?) Should I use drywall or 1" trim wood? Do I use J-bead? for the drywall against the window? If I use wood should I drywall first then wood overtop? Looking for the easiest way but also what would be most appealing. Any opinions/advise appreciated. thanks

I need to replace the exterior door that opens in from and exterior stairwell leading to my basement. One problem. The house was built in the 20's and probably originally had a dirt floor. At some point in time someone poured a concrete floor. So now I have a door that is about 5'8" high (door slab, not rough opening). The width is OK for a standard door. Is there anyway to cut down an exterior steel door? I could probably custom order the size I need, but custom always = BIG$$. Thanks, Joel
