Question Finishing around windows & doors

Hello - I am remodeling my basement. I have set my new framed wall out approx 6-8" from the old wall. (due to contour changes & piping) There are openings in the wall for my existing two windows and french door. I have hung all the drywall except for around the openings. Q. What is the best way to finish out around the windows and doors - ie the 6-8" depth from my new wall to the existing windows & door - both the sides and top/bottom (jamb extensions?) Should I use drywall or 1" trim wood? Do I use J-bead? for the drywall against the window? If I use wood should I drywall first then wood overtop? Looking for the easiest way but also what would be most appealing. Any opinions/advise appreciated. thanks

Hi, you can rip some some 1x10 and make some nice jamb extensions to give you the depth. then when you put your door and window casings you can apply them over your drywall and also over the ripped jam and leave just a 3/8 reveal on the edge of the jamb extensions that you ripped. this way it will appear that the extensions are part of the doors & windows. Hope this helped.
