How to find out if a window is single-pane or dual-pane?

Hi,

I like to know how, I can find out if a window is single pane or dual pane. Is there a simple way of doing this without having to call a professional?

Thanks,
Ans

Hold a flame (a lighted match) and inch or two away from the glass. A single pane of glass will show 1 flame reflected on the glass and dual pane will show 2.

It is as simple as looking at the pane itself. If there is only 1 peice of glass it's a single pane, 2 peices of glass, double pane. All double panes willhave some sort of dividing strip that holds the 2 panes of glass apart. Lesser brands will usually have about a 5/8" gap between the panes of glass and the more expensive brands are 7/8" to 1" gap between the glass panes.
