Instaling windows in a very old house

I think the house is stuco or masonry. I guess stuco. We are redoing all the windows and I wanted to know if there is anything special that needs to be purchased or done. The windows are the originals. They are about 100 year old single pain ones and they are being replaced by high efficiency vynil ones. So should I just measure and order or wht would you suggest I do first. A freind is going to instal them. He is experienced just not available for questioning :0)
