Question Replace broken window on mobile home

I've read several pages of the forum, but found none to situation I have. I've replaced a few old style windows, but none for a mobile home. I have pics of the window that needs replaced. Also have the tools, just need to buy the window and caulking. I'm not sure how to go about putting the window in. The windows are of aluminum frame, with the tracks just big enough to hold a pane of glass. Looking at the frame, I may have to bend it a little to put the window in, but i dont want to cause anymore or extra work for me. Can somebody tell me how to go about putting the window in. And what is the white stuff around the window, caulking???? It looks molded....
(not able to attach photos, maybe with a personal email )

Most older mobile home windows are just screwed onto the outside of the mobile home, and they are sealed with a pliable sealant that stays soft. The sealant comes in a roll like tape, and is available at most places that sell or service RV's. The easiest thing to do is install a window with a nailing fin, and fasten it in the same manner, then cover the nailing fin with some sort of trim so that the fasteners are hidden. If the windows are measured properly, adding a baseshoe to the interior perimeter will finish off the trim nicely.

Question Replace broken window on mobile home

Xsleeper,
you will have to excuse my intelligence, but what is a nailing fin....
I've never replaced a window on a mobile home. We do have a warehouse here that sells mobile home components...If I break and pull that white edging off, will I find the fasteners or such underneath it, in order to slip the glass into the groove. I dont want to take frame and all out, just the piece that needs replacing. as i said i do have photos...

thanks for the photos you emailed me. I didn't understand that your were just replacing the glass.

But FYI, a nailing fin is a flange around the perimeter of a window so that you can screw or nail it to the house.
