Broken window sash
1st time homeowner looking to fix one of our verical sliding windows. There's a plastic cap on each top side of the sliding window - on one side, it's broken. What is this piece called and where can I purchase new ones? Thanks.

Your vertically sliding windows are called "double hungs". If the upper half does not operate, then it is called a "single hung". The style of windows you have are called "side loads." And they look to be aluminum. The steel balance that has broken through your part is probably a "block and tackle balance".
I'm not sure what the name of your broken part is, but if I had to describe it to someone on a Service Repair hotline, I'd probably say that it is a sideload sash corner cap.
I'm sorry that I can't identify the brand of window, but that is what you will need to know so that you can attempt to get a replacement part from the manufacturer. If there is not a brand name printed on your lock mechanisms, try looking for a brand name on the window, perhaps open the upper window and look for a sticker that was left above the top sash.

Thanks for the detailed response. Unfortunately, all of the stickers along the tops of the all of the windows in my house are completely faded from the South Florida sun. LOL
I guess I'll have to bother my neighbors to see if any of their windows (same home builder) have the manufacturer's info.
