patio doors in concrete

How hard would it be to put patio doors in my kitchen? the walls are 1.5f thick with concrete. Is it even worth it? I want to put in a walk out patio from the kitchen to make it fun for the summer. The whole front yard is landscaped with pool and pond and I think it would be great to just walk out the kitchen instead of out the door through the mudroom out to the garage then around to the patio. Looks lovely from the road it's just not accecible. especially for the bbq. advice and costs?

thatnks ahead

Almost anything is possible- if you can think of it, a carpenter somewhere can do it.

When you say "concrete" it leaves me wondering if you are refering to a cement block wall, with framing inside, or if it is poured cement? Does the exterior have siding, stucco or brick?

I've put windows in walls like that, (18" thick) where there was never a window before, and let me tell ya, its no fun. But it can be done, with the right equipment. Block walls make it much easier.

If I had to make a guess, I'd say that a job like that would take 2 men parts of 3 days, start to finish. So you could figure about $2000 in labor plus the door and materials. (not including your patio, steps or sidewalk to the door) The thing is, every contractor will probably guess high because it's such a daunting task.

the house is very old. It's made of rock and concrete I guess. I think I have heard the term masonery but I am not sure.
