HomeDepot - WindowMaster

HomeDepot - WindowMaster
I decided to get WindowMaster over Milgard since it has a SoundMaster line. Milgard has it too but the guy at Home Depot said that WindowMaster and Milgard are very close in quality. Milgard cost more because of the name brand and that is basically it.
Anyway, my question is, is it cheaper to get these retrofit windows from HomeDepot or from another vendor? Otherwise, if you can think of anything else, please let me know. I think it is cheaper to get from Home Depot since they always order from them and can order mass load as wholesale.
I really need someone to help me on this because I really need to get this project on its way.
Thank You

I am not familiar with windowmaster, but I am curious about your reference to their "soundmaster" product. Are you looking specifically for sound attenuation in your new units? If so, then I might be able to offer a few words of advice.

Superman,
If you have aluminum framed windows (single or double pane, it doesn't much matter), ANY vinyl framed, dual pane window is going to make a noticable reduction in the noise level in your house. Unless you live next to an airport or a freeway or something, I'm not so sure that the extra $$ spent on sound attenuation is going to be worth it. You would be better off putting those dollars into the proper energy savings features needed for your area. (Low-E squared glass rather than just Low-E, gas fill if you live in really cold climate, etc.)
If there is some reason that you REALLY need sound attenuation -- more than what the standard vinyl framed, dual pane window is going to give you -- then you really need to get out of a big box store and go see a glass shop or a window contractor. You are going to pay extra for the feature, so you might as get the best if it's that much of an issue.

Thank You for your replies
I live next to a busy street. As a matter a fact, the street behind me is one of the major street. Across from that street is a park.
I currently have aluminum and need soundmaster windows because I want to block the noise. I sleep with ear plugs some night.
Lefty, thank you for that note about vinyl versus aluminum. Perhaps you are right because all vinyl window are double panels anyway while the old aluminum are not.
What about cost? Where is it better to get these windows?
Thank You

Virtually every customer that I have replaced windows for (out with the aluminum, in with the vinyl) has commented on the significant noise reduction. I would go that route first. If that isn't quiet enough, THEN look into sound attenuation glass. You can replace the IG units with it later if need be. But it's not cheap, and I wouldn't spend the money on it needlessly.
