Question Window Removal & Questions

My house was originally a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom house. It was probably built in the 60's or 70's. My uncle added an addition to the house consisting of a living room and a master bedroom. My problem is that my room has a huge window because it was the back of the original house. When the addition was added, the window was never removed. So now there's a window between my bedroom and my parents' bedroom. I want to remove the window and install a built-in bookshelf. I'm a DIY newbie, so I have a few questions:

1. What is my wall probably made of?
2. How do I remove what seems to me like a metal frame window?
3. Should I just hire someone to remove it?...I've heard it's difficult to do.

Sorry this is so long. Any little tips would help.

Thanks! Christine

hi
Here is some suggestion

1. What is my wall probably made of?
might be 2x4 or 2x6 with insulation bettem the header and the bottom part if it was an exterior wall before and depending climate
2. How do I remove what seems to me like a metal frame window?
start by removing the trim around. some windows where attach with screws in the window frame or where fasten from the outside. check if there a flage around the exterior part of the window.
3. Should I just hire someone to remove it?...I've heard it's difficult to do.
If you have the tools and some help you should be able to do it or get a friend that has some capentry skills.

All you need is to remove the window, install some 2x4 or 2x6 to fill in the gap place them 16" cc and then cover the hole with drywall
tape, mud, sand, prime, paint
good luck

i'd drag your uncle over there and make him take out that window. heh

seriously it shouldn't be difficult really.

once you remove the trim there should just be a few nails holding it in then it should it should just pop out.
